48. A Christmas Journey

48. WTTS SK

It is barely the day upon which we give thanks,
And my heart is heavy with the absence of Spirit within my Soul.
I must search for this Spirit for I know it lives somewhere out there,
In the most unexpected places.
I will set out this holiday season on a journey,
To hopefully find for myself the real Spirit of Christmas.

An unexpected call from a very distant friend,
Words have not been exchanged for many a year.
Care and concern travel over the phone line.
A few days later a card arrives by currier,
A thoughtful word, a picture and the gift of communication.

A Thanksgiving card from a family member.
Enclosed within currency to help make a young boys Christmas a little more memorable.
The smallest request of that same boy,
For a simple string of lights tacked up around his room,
Bringing sheer delight and a sparkle to his eye.

The clerk at a retail store being helpful and kind giving an extra discount to the final tally.
I feel its presence this Spirit I search for,
It is gently tapping me on the shoulder hoping I will take notice.

An ornament from the past hung on the tree in just the right place,
To catch the air and spin the memories of childhood.
A candle lit path leading the way to a very special evening spent with an adored loved one.
The loving gift of music to feed the soul and soothe the Spirit.
Christmas Eve shared with the love of a caring family held warm by hearth and home.

I set out this year to find the real Spirit of Christmas.
I believe I found pieces of it scattered here and there.
I will gather them all and ponder them in my heart.
I think I will call upon them next year,
As I make yet another Christmas journey.
