I think that I would like to be a tree straight and tall,
With my roots solidly anchored deep into mother earth.
To extract from the soil its purest goodness,
And to gather the sun and the rain for nourishment in which to grow.
I think that I would like to be a tree,
To have a multitude of strong arms covered with nimble fingers,
That would have nothing more to do than to rustle in the cool breezes.
To be a safe haven for all of the earths winged ones,
That would nest within my reaching branches,
Bringing to me the joy of new life and the gift of song.
I think that I would like to be a tree,
To have a tough, thick outer covering
That would protect me from being bruised and easily hurt.
To be able to shed all the sadness and hurts of the past year upon the ground,
To be able to start anew each and every spring.
Yes I think that I would like to be a tree.
