In between the bouts of quiet desperation I wear the mask. The mask says,
That I am confident, tolerant and unafraid.
It says,
That I am strong of mind and body and I have no pain.
The mask says,
I am not lonely and I need no one for care and comfort.
It says,
I have an abundance of love in which to give the world,
And it is acceptable for that same world not to give me love in return.
The mask says,
That I can tackle any challenge alone,
And I do not need a hand to hold or a form to lean on.
The mask,
I thank it every day for protecting all of those I hold so dear.
And in the moments of quiet desperation I curse its existence,
For because of its presence,
I am so all alone.
