18. Pain

#25

– Night Wind

Pain,
It knows no schedule,
It knows no holidays,
It rapes and scares and leaves your will to rot in the late day sun.

Pain,
It is a filthy whore of a master,
That flogs your guts and leaves your wounds gaping,
To be feasted upon by maggots and starving vultures.

Pain,
It makes you want to crawl out of your skin,
Leaving your bones behind to be devoured by rabid prey.

Pain,
It sucks away your breath,
Leaving you to gasp and choke for air,
Like a half dead fish in the bottom of a stinking scow.

Pain,
It makes you mad crazy like a mindless wretch,
Grasping, clawing and screaming for deliverance.

Pain,
It is as ugly as a one eyed dog,
And is as foul as a rotting corpse at high noon.

Pain,
It is as unrelenting as a spoiled child,
It is a thief, a liar and is conniving as a villainous murderer.

Pain,
It mocks your every move,
Then spits in your face.

Pain,
For all of its vile attributes,
It becomes your best friend,
For rest assured,
It is the only thing that will never, ever leave you alone.
