It mesmerizes me the unknown tune that floats through the air,
As it surrounds me like a warm handmade quilt.
Strangers abound,
Yet the idle chatter does not drown out the notes as they float aimlessly by.
Alone, yet not lonely,
I feast upon a fare that welcomes my palate and croons my taste buds.
Each morsel tastes that much more satisfying,
For it is prepared especially for me by someone other than myself.
The notes inspire me to jot down my thoughts on a small inscribed bar napkin.
Why this music moves me I do not know.
Perhaps it’s because it holds no past attachments in its origin or word,
And its heady notes make me want to close my eyes and sway.
This new found attraction that beckons me from a place unknown,
Is a gift I present to myself at the end of the sixth day.
This is the comfort and ease of jazz night.
