14. The New Commandments

The New Commandments - Lilly

Don’t expect more than that which you cannot share yourself.

Don’t take more than you have the capacity to give.

Don’t judge others until you have toiled the days of their life.

Don’t forget that which you have not forgiven.

Don’t apologize when you don’t carry it in your heart.

Don’t say the words, “I love you,” when the words don’t connect with your soul.

Don’t have regrets over that which you left behind to toil in the space you once held sacred.

Don’t reach for those you have turned your back on, their path no longer goes in your direction.

Don’t close your eyes to the tears that fall upon the face of the broken hearted.

Don’t share your heartfelt visions with the blind of heart.

Don’t proclaim to know, that which you have not seen.

Don’t project your tainted experiences upon those who have virgin sight.

Don’t wound those who keep your attention, with filth you have yet to wash off your own hands.

Don’t mind the business of others, when the business of your own affairs is not in order.

Don’t judge the weeds in your neighbor’s garden when no flowers grow upon your gate.

Don’t curse the beggar when your table is laden with the fruits of the beggar’s labor.

Don’t lose sight of all you have seen.

Don’t carry the burdens of your ancestor’s misfortune, or the basket that you carry will be heavy upon your shoulders.

Don’t stop reaching for dreams until your arms have fallen forever to sleep.

Don’t wonder what if, when what could be is within your grasp.

Don’t forget to wash off the dirt that others have thrown upon your cloak.

Don’t run out of words when what needs to be spoken is in your charge to speak.
