3. Dawn

i013[1]– From a Distance, New Horizons

The day dawns much like any other.
The body rejuvenated by the nights past slumber.
How long it will last is just not known.

Then as sure as the day is long,
The pain creeps up from behind and claims me.
It puts a hold upon my day,
And challenges me to fight for control of each and every moment.

The pain does not mark my outer covering,
I do not appear broken or marred in any way.
It cannot be seen,
Yet all of my muscles feel as though they have been harshly beaten,
Only all the bruises are on the inside.

Every movement makes me cringe and doubt my strength to continue on,
With all that needs to be done.
Only those who know my eyes will sense my struggle,
But even they cannot conceive how powerful a grip the pain has over me.

The day dawns much like any other,
With the silent hope,
That the pain will only claim to itself the strength I have in excess.
It never seems to be satisfied with what I have to offer,
It hungrily devours all the energy I have so carefully stored away.
Making me feel so very tired, so very useless, so very sad.

Oh how I hate to give in to its destructive power.
For equal to the pain of my body,
Is the infinite desire to be capable and the overwhelming need,
Not to be a burden to all of those around me.
As once again the day dawns much like any other.
